Why do I need to secure my account?

When we think about cybercrime, we don’t necessarily think about domain hijacking. But we definitely should, considering it has consistently been on the rise over the last few years. A fact that can be explained by how easy it can be for hackers to hijack your domain name.

In fact, all cybercriminals need is to access your account. Once they’re in, they can edit parameters so that users are redirected from your domain name to their own servers (for phishing purposes, to steal user’s information…).

Knowing that, how can you secure your domain name? The very first step is having strong passwords and safely storing them. As for the next steps to further ensure security, keep reading to learn about the solutions we provide.

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

You may be asking yourself: “what is 2FA?”. It’s a verification protocol which requires, in addition to your password, a one-time passcode to log into your account, therefore making its access more secure. The 2FA code is randomly generated by a Two-Factor Authentication app you’ll need to download on your smartphone.

You can learn all there is to know about how to enable 2FA and what apps you can choose from by going to our support website and clicking the “Security settings” tab.

IP Restriction

IP restriction increases your account security by authorising connexions for a limited number of IP addresses only. An IP address is attributed (by internet service providers, for example) to all electronic devices connected to an internet network.

Keep in mind that some IP addresses are static while others are dynamic. So before implementing a restriction, please make sure your IP address is not dynamic and/or that it won’t change. If it does change, you could be locked out of your Netim account.

Login alerts

Each time someone successfully logs into your Netim Direct account, you are sent an email notification. If you are not the one logging in, you can then take appropriate action to secure your account.

Login alerts will be sent to the email address you used to create your account. Said email address can be found in the “Personal information” tab.

Login history

We list every successful connection to your Netim Direct account, indicating whether multiple attempts have been made and the associated IP addresses. This feature complements the other protection options by giving you more details.

To find out more about this feature, visit our support site “Connection history”.
